Real Estate, Schmeel Estate

Real Estate, Schmeel Estate....
Fact is, Nobody cares about real estate. Until theyâre buying or selling it.
Another week, another rant. How much can one person really write about real estate? I ask myself this every week, usually right before I sit down and write about real estate again.
The truth is, I love my job, but anyone in sales knows itâs a damn roller coaster.
One minute youâre rocking in the corner, sure youâre done.
Youâre quitting.
Why would anyone want to work with such a shit agent? Then you find your client the perfect property, save a deal or sign up someone new, and suddenly youâre back baby! Alive again!
I think it takes a certain kind of person to stick around for that. Real estate makes and breaks me on a weekly basis, and I keep coming back because getting a great result for a client is a dopamine hit thats hard to beat.
On top of doing the actual job, it feels like agents are now expected to become social media celebrities. Relentless videos, articles, silly reels and carousels. Honestly, itâs one of my less favourite parts of where the industry is at. Iâd much prefer a real chat with a real person, but here I am, writing another article.
Because Iâm aware that, to most people, hearing about real estate every week would be incredibly boring. Until they need to buy or sell a house. Then, all of a sudden, itâs the only thing they can think about.
Youâre talking about it at BBQs. Youâre asking friends who bought a house once, five years ago, what they think of your offer. Youâre messaging anyone you know in real estate. Youâre second-guessing your agent because your uncle reckons the property should be worth more. Afterall.. he sold a house 20 years ago, so naturally he knows better than anyone you could hire.
And honestly, I get it. Buying or selling is a huge deal. Itâs your money, your home and quite possibly every spare thought youâll have until settlement. I think about real estate all day because itâs my job. Youâre thinking about it all day because, right now, itâs your life.
Iâve had clients hire me specifically because they need someone in their corner to bounce ideas off. Someone who can tell them what the data says, answer the 1,000 questions and be a bit of a buddy through the whole thing. Someone they can call instead of getting uninvited to the next BBQ for starting another real estate spiral. And those questions donât stop at âWhat should we offer?â Sometimes Iâm selling their current home while helping them buy the next one. Sometimes weâre talking through rental applications, or Iâm helping get their investment property leased. There are a lot of moving parts, and it helps to have someone who knows whatâs happening across all of them.
Someone they can call with the big questions, the little questions and the âI know I already asked you this, but...â questions.
A real estate bestie, if you will, who also helps them maintain their actual friendships.
So, if youâve landed here because youâre currently in that spiral, my advice is this: take a breath.
Get help from people who do this every day. Your relative who bought or sold 20 years ago might mean well, but they probably donât know your market better than your agent.
Call me if you need a buddy in real estate. Donât freak out your mates. đ
